Welcome to voice-push.com!
This is a rather informal site about what goes into making a good VoiceXML application. Most of the emphasis is on Voice User Interface (VUI) design - in particular for speech recognition applications.
The site also looks at some of the more practical aspects of getting your VoiceXML application off the ground. So if you're new to VoiceXML I hope you find some useful tips here. If you've already written your own voice portal, directory assistance and voice mail system all rolled into one, then maybe you can send me a few tips!
VoiceXML
This section gives you a brief overview of the current VoiceXML standards. There isn't any sample code in this section - but I've included some in the other sections when it makes sense. However, if you need any help programming VoiceXML then ask a question in the forums! I've also added some stuff on speech recognition & text-to-speech.
VUI vs. GUI
This section covers some of the important differences between writing VoiceXML applications rather than stright-forward web applications - i.e. Voice User Interfaces vs. Graphical User Interfaces. There's also a consideration of the pros and cons of client-side vs. server-side scripting.
Voice User Interfaces
This is the biggest section - covering various aspects of actually designing VoiceXML user interfaces for DTMF and ASR applications.
Project Phases
I just had to put this section in - designing a VoiceXML application is still a long way from launching it and having real customers use it! So here are one or two small tips to keep in mind during the project.
Links
Surprise, surprise - a collection of VoiceXML related links - including links to sites with a lot more links than I have!
Contact
Actually this sort of works now... except you may end up in my spam directory - so think of a good subject line which doesn't mention drugs or improving my stamina in the bedroom!
